Yes. I'm well aware of who wrote revelations, thanks.
But Jesus said it right?
Yes. He's quoting Jesus there.
He is?! & how do you know this?
Because Revelations 2:18 reads:
"18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: "
ah.. so he's recollecting a revelation in which Jesus says that. A vision. A dream. Not quite the same as Jesus actually saying it in person.
You're interpretation is then expectedly warped. RE: Dear Christians

fr0d0, you seem to be forgetting that (most) atheists insist the Bible be read as 100% literal fact...
Thank you for validating my point that you will interpret the Bible in such a way that it is always magically in line with your presonal views. So you don't believe that John wrote Revelations under god's instructions, because that doesn't suit you. There are many others who do believe that Revelations was written under god's instruction because it suits them.
Sure it isn't a book to take literally, there's too much bullshit and too many contradictions for that to be the case; but the fact remains that people pick and choose which parts they want to take literally and which parts to reject. J.K Rowling wrote Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but it was still Albus Dumbledore who said "Do not pity the dead, Harry, pity the living. Above all, pity those who live without love. By returning you may ensure that fewer souls are maimed and fewer families are torn apart. If that seems to you a worthy goal, then we say goodbye for the present."
I don't know a theist who would interpret as literally as you do Nora. Their interpretation results from careful study, where yours comes from a cursory attempt to discredit. To you it's evil and contradictory, But that's what you wanted to find.
To me the bible is inerrant. Thus far. God didn't write it, he inspired it. Humans related it. |
