That's untrue! I totally believe Ezekiel 22:27-29.

Well, I was talkin about Min. He thinks it's bull shit.
You think it's infallible just not inerrant?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Do you do this on purpose?

We don't get our morals from a deity anyways, we get it from interacting with other people, even pets/animals, and the experience thereof.

Don't let anyone tell you what to think, not even other atheists. Instead, think and reason your way to your own conclusions, if you come to the same conclusion as more than 1 billion people have, is beside the point - it's your own conclusion as no one is the same and hasn't experienced the same as you personally have, which is why you should use your own critical thinking skills and not follow the words of others. Even this very post I think you should evaluate by yourself; something a religious leader never would say honestly. They can't, because they have to adhere to "divine inspiration" or some other authoritarian bullshit.

Isn’t this telling him what to think? Namely, that he should think it’s important to not let others tell him what to think? “Listen to me when I tell you not to listen to others.” Tongue

I just wanted to see what you guys think. Any advice for leaving religion behind, and dealing with the loneliness?

You should check out The Clergy Project. I know you're not a Pastor, but since you work in a church, they still may be able to help in some way.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

At best, it's an advice - it's up to anyone to decide for themselves if they want to listen what I have to say.

Of course, by doing that, they actually already done it ...
