RE: Are Atheists Angry?
June 5, 2013 at 3:25 am
I wish a theist would take a moment and look at it from not their point of view. All those religious wars were for nothing. All those martyrs died for nothing. All those nights spent praying in anguished tears for the man who suffered so I could be saved: yeah nothing. fuck everYone and everything that contributes to the falsities of religion. Then fuck religion because it keeps our world from moving forward in its NWO fears, its age old grudges, its ignorant excuse for applied knowledge aka:dogma, and its inescapeable taint on the hearts of good people. Then fuck it for claiming it owns the patent on righteousness and morality. I'm not angry at theists per say, but I am angry that the amount of jaded outweighs the not. I'm upset that I have to look at the world for what it really is while being told I'm going to a hell while theists walk around wasting their time and precious efforts praising a non being and praying for change then opposing the roads that can actually effect that change. I'm new to atheism so I'm still trying to adjust and yeah in answer to your question: I'm angry. Though not nearly as angry as my 7yr old neice who found out Santa doesn't exist
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Most things people would call 'human advancements' are things I believe make the world worse.

Do you:
A) Wonder at the power of imagination and have nothing but love
B) A little annoyed at the extremists but overall at peace
C) Seriously worry about the state of the world and it's religious influences.
D) Am pissed at everyone that believes in God, feel betrayed by those who raised you and want to hit something every-time a church bell rings.
I try to be an "A" but to be honest, some people just slam me in the D category. I'm not even an atheist. I'm open minded but my biggest pet peeve is know-it-alls I guess.
Angry in general? I can't speak for anyone else but I'm not an angry person. However religious people can MAKE me angry when they try to stomp all over people's rights or when they say something mind-numbingly stupid. Most people who believe in a God aren't really bad people or even stupid. One thing it didn't take me long to figure out is that humans believe a lot of things that make them feel better. I think we're hard-wired that way as a species.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!
Oh wait, I'm not an atheist. Oh nevermind.
Actually, even though I'm not an atheist, if I were, I still would have to choose 'none of the above'. I view religion in all its good and bad as just another reflection of our basic psychology and nature as biological beings. I don't separate out belief from non-belief so much, because to my view, the real story is out of frame, the important part is the general way that the mind deals with the world, and the obsession over specific examples of human psychology, good or bad, doesn't really interest me as much. Does it piss me off when religious people do stupid and evil things? Of course. Do I get all balled up about religion as a result? No.

More or less D for me.
It does seriously annoy me that people believe this rubbish. Worse still, some people make life decisions based on religious belief, which to me is insane. Shunning family members in favour of a made up sky daddy, refusing medical treatment, blowing oneself up, stuff like that...
I could go on and on, but I won't.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one; I grew up nonreligious, so I've never been able to access the kind of belief or fervor that the religious can get, so in certain respects their beliefs are almost unassailable to me. It's not just insane, it's a leap of logic in which I can't even envision the jumping off point.
So in my case, maybe it's not so much anger as it is irritated bafflement.
