How many European flags were burnt, pissed on even, over the last 2 millenia?

Pottery Barn Retracts Suggestion to use US Flag As A Tablecloth

Interesting thought....
Watching the Avengers (yeah of all movies to get an interesting thought) something that Loki said... Quote:Loki: Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It's the unspoken truth of humanity, that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power, for identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel. So the question is.... are YOU like this? "The Universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements: energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest." Not at all, which is why I do not get along with authority, mainly of the corporate variety. I have been entertaining the idea of leaving the U.S., I am thinking for Canada, but I need to find the motivation to do it.

Same here Maelstrom. I don't fit the subservient little hominid very well
I am guessing this is why religion of any variety is an abomination to me. hate being dictated to. "The Universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements: energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest." G'Kar-B5

I'm not saying...I'm just saying...
A lot of Americans (US of Aicans) seem to say they are going to Canada.
As the globe warms Canada may become even more attractive. I probably should be investing in companies that specialise in fencing. (June 16, 2013 at 8:14 pm)Minimalist Wrote: Um...well.... Well, something is standing at attention...

Which isn't really an appropriate use of the flag, but I can see that they meant no disrespect and were just trying to be patriotic. But yes, this flag worship does get way out of hand. Conservatives treat the flag like it's a holy relic or something. I was at a flag retirement ceremony put on by the Knights of Columbus in Ohio (was visiting family), and the whole ceremony was filled with religious references interwoven with patriotism, and of course the flags were nearly being worshiped. They had already taken the stripes of the flags apart and also had the eyelets on a piece of wire so that they could be dropped into the fire to make sure that every single thread of every flag was burned. I mean, come on already, they're just pieces of cloth! Needless to say I felt very uncomfortable at that ceremony.
