And yet it doesn’t answer the most puzzling gap: Where is Bombadil?? Arguably the most powerful Being in Area, without whom Sauron would have recovered the Ring, and he isn’t even mentioned, let alone seen.

One of the most intense movies I have seen in a long time. A must see!
That starred Halle Berry, right? I saw part of that on Bounce a month or so ago. Really good movie.

Went to the theatre Sunday with my sister and watched "Cocaine Bear." Very funny and very scary at the same time. It is indeed an intense experience. Y'all got to see it.

The previews reminded me of some chaps I met in Columbia "a few years ago".

They couldn't leave the ring with Bombadil because he didn't care about it. He would have been an unwise custodian. Dead end there, so why bother?
Who said to leave the Ring with him? Elrond explained why that would have been a horrid plan. BUT…
Bombadil rescued the hobbits from the barrow-wight. If he hadn’t, then Sauron would have recovered the Ring, since the barrow downs were under control of the Witch-King. That aside, if Merry hadn’t had the Numenorean blade - recovered from the barrow and given to him by Bombadil - Eowyn wouldn’t have been able to kill the Witch-King, Gondor and the West would have fallen, and Sauron STILL would have recovered the Ring.
Bombadil is vital to the outcome of the story.

Evidently so, so much. Changing the story doesn’t count.
