RE: The Last Movie You Watched
Last weekend, I watched a few... being alone in the UK provides some time to catch up with the backlog of videos on my HD.
- A Separation (an Iranian movie from 2011 - won the Oscar for best foreign picture - starts with a woman wanting a divorce, but then things get really complex, we find a lot about the justice system, relations between men and women... it's very interesting - and not for any take on the muslims)
- Top Secret! (from 1984, a complete parody of undercover agents and nazis, with Val Kilmer, so funny, even stuff that's going on in the background is a parody)
- Transformers, Dark of the moon (meh, eye candy transformers and babes)
- Transformers, age of extinction (here I was expecting to see transformers in pre-history... but no. Super-mega powerful dino-tranformers only get used in the last 10 minutes or so and they only serve as rides for the autobots, meh)

- Evil Dead (from 1981... how had I never seen this crap?! It's so bad, it's good... I have part 2 and 3 ready for my pleasure... I think I watched #2 when I was way younger... looking forward... to revive those memories)

Metropolis. An old science-fiction movie from 1927. To be honest my expectations were very low (silent film) but it was actually watchable, albeit very weird!

Metropolis was a groundbreaking film. It definitely drags in spots, but its core themes are still relevant, and it's the first film that used the now typical future, towering megacity look. Modern sci-fi (Blade Runner, Judge Dread, The Fifth Element, the Star Wars prequels, just to name a few) crib liberally from Metropolis when it comes to the look and feel of their cities.

If anyone wants a depressing film, watch Bicycle Thieves, a postwar Italian film that's basically about life being unfair.

Last "movie" I watched was the full "movie" Of the South Park game: Stick of Truth.

Fucking awesome story for a game IMO, it's how I always wanted South Park games to be.

Evil Dead II.... it's like Evil Dead I (they even reused some of the shots), but the ending is just as I remembered it from decades ago! Smile
Can't wait for part III - Army of Darkness.

I'm sick and called off work, so I watched three movies last night.

First, I rewatched Lawless. One of my favorites. Although, now that there's been some time since the last time I watched it, I think Guy Pierce almost went overboard in the last scene. He stops just short of screaming "I'm the bad guy!" Still, so satisfying seeing him bite it.

Blue Ruin- Damn, what a great movie. The director seems to have taken some notes from the Cohen brothers. Very low on dialogue and long on one shot scenes. I'd be glad if more movies felt less inclined to tell you exactly how to feel. Quick recap- a vagabond learns that the man who murdered his parents is getting released from prison. Now go watch it.

Fruitvale Station- A film about the life of Oscar Grant leading up to his murder at Fruitvale Station. I'm sure you've seen the cell phone footage of the cops tieing him up, laying him face down, and shooting him in the back. I'm not sure how to feel about this movie. For one, depending on how you look at it it's either a Hollywood money grab, or it's an important story that needs to be told. And I don't know how much of his life was made up for the film, which is par for the course with movies like this.

Some of the conversation points seem like they are made sure to be hit. Like the characters went out of their way to say something that would prophesize his death, and this was clearly done for the emotional impact. Took me out of the movie at times.

I would be interested to know how true some of the serendipitous meetings were and how much was Hollywood.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

I don't remember. Ever since we have a kid, we use our spare time for other things... I think it was Jurassic Park or something...
