The Last Movie You Watched
RE: The Last Movie You Watched
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Probably the best film ever made.

Apparently we just have different movie tastes

You'd be surprised what a bit of editing can do. The theatrical release of Kingdom of Heaven is a mess, but the Director's Cut is a huge improvement that moves the film into the realm of eminently enjoyable. Then again, this is Ridley Scott were talking about here.

Also, I really like Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, so there's that too... Big Grin

I liked V for Vendetta, though it's nothing like the graphic novel. Maybe that's why I was able to enjoy it, because I separated the two. One of Alan Moore's goals whenever he writes for comics is to try and emphasize the things that make comics such a unique medium, and that pretty much guarantees that it won't translate very well to other media. Watchmen, on the other hand, was a mess. I still have not been able to finish watching it because it tries too hard to be faithful to the graphic novel and fails so poorly.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy would not have worked for me if I'd read the books first. Reading them afterwards, I could see a number of areas where I would have been disappointed in the films. And I don't think that I would have enjoyed Fight Club (the book) nearly as much as I did had I not seen Fight Club (the film) first. The movie gave me a bit of an anchor point for a book that otherwise doesn't seem cohesive enough.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Gravity.
I'll admit I cried when I heard the baby.

The Blue Planet

Jaw droppingly gorgeous photography. And Sir David Attenborough's narration is excellent, as always.

The scenes of the killer whale pack attacking the gray whale pup were chilling. The sea flushing red with plumes of blood from the calf.

And the herring spawning made me horny.

I'll be ordering the blu-ray before I watch any more, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. (ETA: Apparently the blu-ray includes much content that is not high definition. The DVD has been re-released with additional content, so that's where I'm headed.)

Rollerball. The 1975 version about corporations run amok.

Prophetic.

I've seen that movie probably 15 times.

It was years and years before I found out that Jessica Rabbit was an original character from this movie; she's so iconic I though she must have been a character with historic roots like Betty Boop. (Roger Rabbit, too, but don't be fooled, we all remember Jessica the most.)

I should pick up a graphic novel sometime; I've always wanted to read one ever since I hear that From Hell was based on a graphic novel...

Was I the only person who wasn't impressed by Gravity? I thought the plot was extremely thin and it was entirely reliant on CGI to make it any good.

o0o0o0o... I remember wanting to see this; I'll probably wait to see it when it's aired on Animal Planet or something.

Saw Monuments Men on Saturday; 4 out of 5 for interest, 3 out of 5 for story. It's a wait 'til Netflix movie.

Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

Oh indeed... the story wasn't that great...
Ruskies detonate a nuke in space which creates a destruction wave knocking out all orbiting satellites, including the ISS, Hubble ST and a shuttle... yeah right... -.-' The russians are not that stupid.... actually, I'd expect something like that from the Bush administration... but not Putin! Tongue
And then just survive, go from here to there, then there, then there and you're there.
But the visuals are great... and all that accurate 0-G action was impressive too. There's a ton of stuff we don't think about a 0-G environment and that was very well done.

Okay, I'm watching a movie right now called "The Visitant" (is that even English?) and it's friggin' hilarious. The ghost keeps folding towels. Ooh scary! Also, when the main character's best friend tells her to leave the house (a sensible solution), the main character is all, "No, NEVER!" LOL. Too dumb to live.

EDIT: OMG, with 10 minutes left to go in the movie, it just got dumber. The best friend warned her that spirits lie, but that doesn't stop her from believing that the ghost is actually her dead husband. Stupid fucking bitch. I hope she dies.

EDIT2: She died. Mwahaha. Stupid bitch.

I just watched The Dark Knight again, for what must be the tenth time. I just can't get enough of Heath Ledger's performance in it. Who really cares about Christian Bale, let's be honest.
