Elliott Meisel, the wealthy chairman of the Sagaponack Zoning Board of Appeals and a partner in a top New York real-estate law firm, caused an ugly scene by screaming at a Hamptons police officer after he was slapped with a ticket for parking in a handicapped bay outside a popular restaurant.

An eyewitness at the restaurant, popular with celebs including Scarlett Johansson and Jimmy Fallon said, “The hot-blooded attorney ran out and began cursing at the cop in front of a crowd, who shook their heads in disbelief. He continued to storm and scream for 20 minutes while the cop calmly called for backup and whipped out a camera to document it.”

Meisel “was out of control, he was like a caged animal pacing back and forth, screaming and dropping F-bombs,” the witness said. “It was the biggest temper tantrum we’ve ever seen. It was amazing the officer didn’t arrest him.”

I wonder how this would have gone down if the perp was black?  Somehow....I think things would have been different.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported in 2014 that brutality-related lawsuits cost Chicago taxpayers more than half a billion dollars in the preceding decade.



A report by the Boston Globe published in May found that the city had paid $36 million to resolve more than 2,000 legal claims and lawsuits against the Boston Police Department over the past decade.

According a HuffPost analysis of LAPD payment data released by the Los Angeles Times in 2011, taxpayers paid more than $100 million to settle lawsuits against officers accused of civil rights violations, wrongful deaths and other intradepartmental misconduct. These payouts, made by the city between 2002 and October 2011, didn't include huge settlements awarded to citizens in recent years, including a $5 million settlement resulting from the case of an unarmed National Guard veteran killed by LAPD officers on live TV in 2013 and a $1.35 million sum given to the mother of a man who died in LAPD custody in 2013 following a traffic stop.

Kentucky police shipped mentally ill inmate to Florida by Greyhound bus — then charged him with escape

Defying a court order to take a mentally ill inmate to a state hospital for observation, a Kentucky police chief bought a one-way ticket to Florida for the man, sending him on a 28-hour bus ride, only to have the state extradite him back by saying he escaped.

I guess this is a slight improvement over shooting him in the back and claiming he was trying to "escape."

So, he's willing to drive the guy 50 miles to put him on a bus, but not willing to drive him to a psychiatric hospital. I can't see the hospital being that much further away, in the state of Kentucky. What else could the excuse be? Do cops need to start taking something similar to an IQ test, in order to get their jobs? I am stunned by the stupidity, but I guess I shouldn't be.

I think they should do some testing before hiring cops. Obviously, we have quite a few bad apples (morally and intellectually), so the selection process that many departments use is less than satisfactory.
