There's a better chance with CPS than with the biological parents at this point. You can't call an egg bad before you crack it open, so who knows if they'll be worse off in a new home? I'd say it's worth the risk if it's undeniably bad where they currently are.

Please don't punish the kids for their mother's issues. Social Services fuck kids up way more than any parent ever could. They'd literally be better off dead than in care.

It is not. I grew up with an alcoholic father who emotionally and verbally abused me. It seems to me that this woman's children are experiencing that as well as physical abuse. As far as I am concerned, she deserves to have her children taken away due to her abhorrent behavior.

Thanks to all of you with constructive ideas... including those that said I should talk to the mom. Talking to her isn't realistic, but I think I'm gonna take pocaracas' advice and call the police non-emergency number and see what the options are. I have a feeling it won't be the first time this horrible woman has had to deal with this stuff, unfortunately for the kids.

I don't think I quite understand the role of the father. Did he leave them and doesn't want the kids?

If offered custody, that would solve the problem of "drunk parent" vs "broken system".

I'm not sure either, Summer. I don't know if it's a job that takes him out of the picture, or if he just can't stand it and he leaves sometimes... all I know is I've heard weepy phone calls late at night, the mom begging him to come home. Also, the drinking starts when he's gone.

I swear, I'm not a busy-body neighbor. We're just in very close quarters, and these people don't even try to hide their insanity.

I would see if you could figure out what his situation is, because he could be the key to getting the kids out.
