I think we should just offer free kittens and boobies. The rest should take care of itself.

I think one can spread science and reason without trying to turn others into atheists. It's really none of my business if you believe in god. Your behavior is what is important to me and if you can be a decent human being while maintaining belief in a deity, then that's fine.

Since when does that need promoting????

It is a personal thing, a conclusion to which one comes out of individual thoughtprocess.

Not some shit you buy at a store.

I say send all religious people to Venus to start the project. Without space suits, of course.

The best method here to employ a positive image towards atheism/agnostism/deism, humanism, or secularism, is to be good people. However, this is not enough as it the ideology that the philosophical structure typically implies holds this back. The way we should go about this is change the image. While there are plenty of “charities” from atheists or non-religious folk. The collective group needs to walk a higher “moral” road, the religious folk as of right now are rather greedy, self-serving, corporate religions. To combat this in my opinion is as follows:

1. We need to create a very visible base that religion is not needed to be “moral”.
2. To establish step one, use reason, logic, and rationality to establish a moral code.
3. Combat the corruption, greed, and social injustice since the religions are not doing it.
4. Help out the poor, disadvantaged, and hurting.
5. Use science to cure people. (irony huh.)
6. Combat psychological illnesses and mental issues and not alienate them.
7. Heal psychological and emotional issues that religions either create or neglect.
8. As difficult as it is, we need to take some pointers from Jesus. Be calm, timid, understanding and patient with people as we debate them.
9. Push for scientific advancement, social progression, and humanism over pure profit, greed and power.
10. Finally become the “Light and Salt of the Earth” that religion is not.

Sounds like Atheism+ to me. You don't need to start a movement. You can just go join that one. I'm not looking to go on any mission for or against god. If there is any way to find any meaning and fulfillment in this life, I mean to do that now. Transforming all of humanity is a losing bet. The thing to remember is that they are all peers and not sheep, at least potentially. Their transformation begins with what they do, not how we herd them.

I agree.

Quote:2. To establish step one, use reason, logic, and rationality to establish a moral code.

A moral code? What?

Quote:3. Combat the corruption, greed, and social injustice since the religions are not doing it.

Alright...you, uh, you go do that.

Quote:4. Help out the poor, disadvantaged, and hurting.

Agreed.

Quote:5. Use science to cure people. (irony huh.)

"Cure" people? What? Religious belief isn't a disease.

Quote:6. Combat psychological illnesses and mental issues and not alienate them.

Again, are you saying religious belief is a psychological illness? What are you getting that from?

Quote:7. Heal psychological and emotional issues that religions either create or neglect.

That's a strange and vague statement. I sort of agree with it...?

Quote:8. As difficult as it is, we need to take some pointers from Jesus.

Woah, no way. I want to continue existing!

Quote:9. Push for scientific advancement, social progression, and humanism over pure profit, greed and power.

Also a vague statement, but I'm all for pushing for these things.

Quote:10.Finally become the “Light and Salt of the Earth” that religion is not.

Whatever that means.

1. We need to create a very visible base that religion is not needed to be “moral”.[/quote]

I agree.

Quote:2. A moral code? What?
I guess a code of ethics, decide as a society what actions are good for us as a whole. It will close to what we had before religion. We created ethics and rules that benefited a tribe.

A moral code? What?

Quote:3. Alright...you, uh, you go do that.
Well if we united we could, however that is what is ailing society at the moment.

Quote:4. Help out the poor, disadvantaged, and hurting.

Agreed.

Quote:5. "Cure" people? What? Religious belief isn't a disease.

I apologize for the confusion here, I meant physical ailments and disease (cancer, flus, blindness and etc) . I do not belief religion is a disease, and I understand that science is trying. However, I think science can use more support.

Quote:6. Again, are you saying religious belief is a psychological illness? What are you getting that from?

Again sorry, (I am working on my writing. I will be taking classes shortly to help convey my thoughts into words.) I am referring to mental illness and disorders such as Bipolarism, schizophrenia, etc. In my person observations as a ministers kid and attending at least 12 different denominations. I find mental disorders are often neglected by religious organizations. Not to mention society as a whole is still behind on mental treatment.

Quote:7. That's a strange and vague statement. I sort of agree with it...?
.

From depression, to abuse by ministers. We need to be there as support for those people. Not to mention the emotional trauma that certain individuals do attain by ideologies. Also, the de-conversion process for some can be painful, and would help to have support for those folks.

Quote:8. Woah, no way. I want to continue existing!

Sorry for some reason it did not post the second part of that sentence, (Be calm, timid, understanding and patient with people as we debate religious people.)

Quote:9. Also a vague statement, but I'm all for pushing for these things.

I understand the vagueness here, however it is meant to be more or less vague to open up questions or discussions. Corruption, greed and power for me is defined as political and economic. While there is plenty secular corruption, religion is being used as a tool to polarize and justify political and economic corruption.

Quote:10. Whatever that means.

It is a phrase in the New Testament that Christians are supposed to be salt and light to the world. Salt was a preserving and use a flavor enhancer in that day. It is a metaphor that Christians are supposed to be preserving good in the world and make it better.

I appreciate your comment and thanks for challenging to define what I say. I helps me think and grow. Whateverist, you are right we should see each as Peers. Kinda what I was wanting to say but my word did not paste part of that sentence. They have been treated like sheep and herded for along time. I agree with you statement regarding that.

I am not voting on this poll simply because I agree with both sides (they do not necessarily contradict each other).
