During the 1960s civil rights movements some more radical parts of the movement evolved arround a vague "Back to the roots" idea, which probably was built on the notion that Black Africa is Islamic.
That is a false notion, whoever takes a deeper look into african history will notice that the Arab world and Black African world have been in conflict ever since they met. In fact, Black Africa was the main source of slaves for the Arab world, there is even a Arab swearword which is the equivalent to the english word "nigger" and the conflicts between Arabs and Blacks continue today throughout the continent, especialy in the Sahel. Saudi Arabia abolished slavery in 1979 and as a Muslim one of the last places you want to openly show your faith is Black Africa.
So this islamic black movement in America is built uppon false notions of history and has alot of irony to it.
