Trinity

RE: Trinity
Mainline theology cannot simply and effectively explain the Holy Trinity. When they do, the human mind can only visualize three gods.

A convenient circular argument - And it still fails.

Not even with god on the prayer phone you can't explain it? When you ask god to explain himself, does he tell you to f*ck off?

Theology cannot effectively explain the Trinity because the only effective explanation is that it is nonsensical.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

RE: Trinity
You misunderstand. I agree that mainline, i.e. orthodox, theology is nonsense. As a student of Swedenborg, I have a different take on the Trinity that most Christians consider heretical.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit time challenged. I'm selling my house and moving. All my books are boxed- up. And I never really took the time to summarize the New Church perspective. Nevertheless, the Swedenborgian view recognizes a divine trinity divided not into persons, but rather essential attributes of one God, just as soul, body, and operation make one human.

Bolding mine.

Soul has not been demonstrated to exist. Body without operation is still human. A dead human body still belongs to the human species.

I'm a bit unable to fully participate as well. However, when you do get the time, I would love to hear more about Swedenborgianism and your take on theology. Perhaps you can start a thread once you get more settled. There's also an Eastern Orthodox Christian who just joined, though I suspect he's just a shit n' runner, but I know very little about that branch of Christianity. It would be nice to learn more about it first-hand.
