A small thanks to the resident Theists..

No in both cases; it's your bible that makes that claim. I just copy/pasted a direct quotation. You got a problem, take it up with god.

Although I find it interesting that you'd label a quote right from your own holy book as a strawman...

That's bullshit and you know it.
You said: "The bible does say that nonbelievers are antichrists: ..." and then went on to quote a verse about deceivers.

I find it odd that you would think two separate words are even remotely synonymous, that's one helluva leap.

Catfish, may I introduce you to a wonderful word, that you apparently don't understand at all, called "and." The word and is used to connect two parts of a sentence, indicating that they are to be taken jointly. For example, you are rude and mistaken. See how that works?

So when the verse calls unbelievers "deceivers and antichrists," it doesn't mean that they are just deceivers. I imagine it must have been terribly confusing for you, seeing that strange, arcane symbol of three letters; it's understandable that you'd think it meant to disconnect the term deceiver from the term antichrist.

But actually, the two are meant to be connected; the bible is actually calling guys like me two things, in that verse. Isn't that lovely? Smile

To supposidly make the point you think you were making you could have have just as easily quoted Luke 16:19-31 (Lazarus and the rich man). Or Rev 20:11-15: 'Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.'

Since you've shown little interest in learning there's little point in me explaining it to you.

You're joking right?
Show me the word "unbeliever" in your quoted verse. If you can't show that word, stop crapping on my chessboard. Undecided

typical responses. You do know that other people besides myself read these threads, right? I mean, if you aren't interested in "teaching" then why are you here? Channeling catfish's aloofness isn't going to make you any form of right, and sorta disappoints to be honest. I legitimately want to know why after everything I've laid out for you, you still hold fast to your beliefs. Most atheists I ask equate you to wanting it to be true so you are deceiving yourself into believing it's true and any information that contradicts your morals in any way is dismissed by any number of logical fallacies. Secretly deep down I hope that is not the case, because honestly: that's fucked up beyond measure.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Catty, you really need to take a long walk off a short pier. It may freshen your perspective and save us from listening to you, all at the same time. Esq laid it out for you, so you could've said "Oh, nice biblical evidence there" but you instead chose the route of obstinance. Great.

Oh, so he gets to assert that "deceivers" in the Bible actually means "unbelievers" without evidence? Fuck that shit, it's intelectually dishonest to pretend he laid anything out.

Gosh - the irony is thick in here, isn't it?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

catfish is right. The passage referred to professing Christians who were teaching false doctrines. You guys generally wouldn't refer to such as unbelievers and apply comments regarding them to yourselves.
