If her stay is for her own good, then it is as it must be.

As for your home... oh boy... isn't there some rule against selling a currently rented place? Or did you rent fully knowing it could happen?

I think they just have to give a 30 day notice, but there are loopholes even to that.

Depending on where one lives, if there is a current lease, then the new owners are required to carry out the lease to it's end, regardless of when the home is sold. The lease is a contractual obligation. The landlord and the prospective buyer are under the understanding that should the home be sold, the current tenants have the rights under the protection of landlord/tenant laws that allow them to stay in the home for the duration of the lease. That said, if the new owners are merely buying it as an investment property, I can see no reason why Esq would have to vacate.

There might be the possibility of Esq having to move before the end of the lease, but, the new owner would have to give sufficient notice, return a security deposit and possibly buy out the remainder of the lease. An exception to buying out the lease would be if it's a month-to-month lease. In that case, security deposit refund and 30 or 60 days notice is required.

Damn, I just read Esq's post. I'm so sorry to hear that Luckie was admitted again, and that's totally shit about your place, too. I hope things take a turn for the better for you soon, but in the meantime I hope Luckie's hospital stay is short and that the owner change/ finding a new place to live doesn't give you too many problems.

Yeah, she'll be okay, and it probably won't take long. It's just frustrating; this is the second time we've been about to go home, only to be forced to extend our time away, and this time I've had to go home alone which is just... weird and wrong.

Well, we live with Luckie's cousin, who is the landlord too, and so the arrangement is more casual than most, and we basically just pay on a month by month basis. I really doubt the guy would just eject us onto the street, and though we don't know much yet it does seem like we've been given plenty of notice, it's just kinda scary thinking of having to find a new place on the back of all that's happened, especially since we do like living here. It's not an unfair situation- we don't have to pay rent until the landlord has made the situation clear, even- just a consequence of living with a flakey guy.
