Put oil on your hair?!
Wow... and I have problems of way too oily hair! I have to wash my hair every day just to keep that pasty greasy feel away.
As per my instructor, for ethnic hair - and I'm assuming that's the type you have - she said you want to use a deep conditioning treatment. Get one at the salon or get the products from the salon to do at home. And instead of oil, you'd want either a cream or a lotion based product. All oil does is coat the hair shaft. You need something that will penetrate it.
Hope this helps.

Sorry, darlin'. I side with those who question; even those who ask stupid questions. I work for my mom, an independent patient advocate who became one because of multiple misdiagnoses of an extremely rare cancer that, if she had it, would have killed her within six months. If she hadn't asked every question under the sun, and gotten independent opinions, she wouldn't have found out she absolutely did not have cancer, would have started chemo, and would have died from that.
I totally understand frustration for stupid people, but you work in the healthcare sector. It doesn't rule out morons.

Um I thought everyone knew black hair produces little or no oil.

Oh! I've been doing all wrong! I've been using the cream as a pre-conditioner. Thanks.

I'm pretty much as white as one can be, and my curly head doesn't produce any either.

That's cool, I was just teasing with this response.
I have a cousin about to start daily chemo for an extremely aggressive cancer, though I don't have the details.
Glad your mother got the correct diagnosis.

Stupid, obnoxious people questioning EVERYTHING I tell them.
"No, 'alternative medicine' alone won't do you any good."
"Because it's a placebo and not real medicine."
"Did your 'alternate medicine practitioner' go to medical school and what are his qualifications?"
"Yes there's a risk in surgery. There's a bigger risk in not getting the surgery."
"What's the bigger risk? Death."
Go get tequila and a sexy lady. That will make the stupid stop.

I'm resisting the urge to make an innuendo-laden reply.

Nah- mine aren't that tight. I'm more in between a 3A and 3B
