As per my instructor, for ethnic hair - and I'm assuming that's the type you have - she said you want to use a deep conditioning treatment. Get one at the salon or get the products from the salon to do at home. And instead of oil, you'd want either a cream or a lotion based product. All oil does is coat the hair shaft. You need something that will penetrate it.

Wow... and I have problems of way too oily hair! I have to wash my hair every day just to keep that pasty greasy feel away.

Um I thought everyone knew black hair produces little or no oil.

Really. Would you let my hair know that? Sure would save me some money on shampoo.

Yeah but it's a pain to take care of, its fragile and can take hours to comb through. Especially when you have to separate all the curls before washing to avoid tangles and knots. Something I didn't do tonight, sigh. At least it has really flexible style options. But yeah washing it once a week is a lifesaver.

Hey other curlyhaired humans, how much oil do you put in your hair? Just got out the shower and put for handfuls of hair  serum  in and my poor head is still dryer than the Sahara!

I use a half-dollar sized amount of leave-in curl defining cream enriched with coconut oil (Pantene Natural), on my hair while it's still damp. It detangles, smooths, and defines curls for 24 hours. Not one second longer.

I find that products with avocado oil work very well also, and yield a longer lasting result, but they're generally pricier. It would be worth it if I actually styled my hair, but I always go with the bun.
