Oh for crying out loud.

I've been having intermittent problems with internet connectivity — dropped packets, network unreachable and so on — for the past year. I replaced my router on the chance that it was the problem. This past week, the problems have been especially bad. So this morning I unhooked the networking cable from the TV and hooked it to the computer. Voila! Problem solved. All that agonizing over a bad cable. Man. And it's a very high quality cable, too. (Maybe. It could still be the computer. The problem may not have completely cleared.)

Four hours into my work day and I am forced to accept that everything I touch between now and 5:00 will turn to shit. I can't wait to go home, burn a bowl, and put this day behind me.

My networking problems continue. I rest the stack and reinstalled the drivers, to no good end. I suspect malware, but my attempts to detect it have so far been unsuccessful. I'm not skilled at fixing those kinds of problems. I'm hoping reinstalling all machines cleanly will eliminate that possibility, which is why getting up to speed on Den is a priority. I'm too busy until the 25th to do that though.

Meh...both my parents were smokers before I was born, kept smoking through my childhood and teen years... and still smoke.

No, I haven't, because at this time connecting wirelessly with tablet or netbook is fine. I just turned off an XP box that was connected but not in use. That appears to have fixed it. I suspect it was an arp storm from that box, or something similar.

More reason to get migrated off these old installs to all new, clean installs. (In the meantime, I should reinstall NIC drivers and reset the stack on that box. And clear the arp cache.)
