Watching Scrubs and attempting to nap before work.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Went to band practice; worked on the neckline of a sewing project; consumed mass quantities of Cheetos and drank a hot brandy toddy while reading a book written by a friend. We both used to be in a writers' group and I helped proofread the early drafts, so it's great to see the finished product.
Just saw my kid off to the school bus stop. Back to bed I go.

Yeah, U.A.E. came as a surprise because she had, in fact, been talking for some time about possibly teaching in an east Asian country, Korea being the one she mentioned most often, or perhaps Central or South America. I don't think she ever really had her heart set on a particular country or region. There's a lot of unsatisfied wanderlust about her, and I think she just wants to get the hell out of Dodge and experience different places and cultures without worrying too much where she lands. It's all grist for her mill. Based on our conversation, I'm satisfied that she's mindful of the need to seriously research the norms/restrictions under which she will live. I'm doing my part to scour for good sources of information and am bombarding her with sites and book/article suggestions. She's sharp and disciplined (when it really matters), so I think she'll be ok. U.A.E. is certainly one of the more Western-friendly and cosmopolitan places one could work in in the M.E. But just for good measure and a laugh, I reminded her to keep her wits about her because I'm not Liam Fucking Neeson, and I decidedly lack the necessary contacts and carefully honed 30-years-in-the-making skills set if the shit hits the fan. She laughed, but I sensed her disappointment at learning her father really isn't an international man of mystery and intrigue, after all. I'm about to work on what I feel is going to be my longest peace of music I've ever made, and also containing the most loops, rather than hours this could take days... or longer.
About to start now.
I owe, I owe, so off to work I go.
