But now, slowly, they've returned.

Went to see my surgical oncologist yesterday.  I have a tentative surgery date for the day after my birthday

But the bigger news is that I had an ultrasound before that appointment that confirmed that:

• My larger tumor has shrunk (measurably, not palpably) by at least 50%
  
• My smaller tumor is completely undetectable by imaging
  
• My lymphnodes look improved
  

SO YAY!!!!!

I already knew from my medical oncologist that I was responding to treatment, but because you could only ever feel one of my tumors there wasn't a great way aside from imaging to actually know how well I'm responding.

The scary thing is that you can't feel my larger tumor anymore, but it's still about a centimeter in size.  Which means it has been there and growing for at least a couple years before it was even large enough to feel.  I might have started developing it around my 30th birthday (maybe even before) - five years before most women are even really considered eligible - by some doctors - to have a mammogram.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Ladies, get checked! Do your self-checks and get ANYTHING even remotely suspicious checked out!  Fight to get a mammogram to make sure!  I am eternally grateful that my primary care doctor sent me for an ultrasound even though he (and I) thought the lump I felt was nothing to worry about!

Gentlemen, help your ladies do their checks!  It's good for her health and enjoyable for you!



(Oh, and gentlemen who don't have ladies, don't be creeps and offer to do checks - unless it's, like, for your sister or your mom.)

So, humm..... does that mean that the surgery will be less intrusive than originally planned? or is the plan still fully on track?
