Well xmas eve is complete. Dinner was a hit and I made enough to send another serving with everyone who came and still should have plenty for tomorrow. There were two persimmon puddings made. One was made gluten and egg free, and flamed with brandy before serving. The other was served without brandy or flaming, but there was rum and a little sugar in the whipped cream. Both were excellent but the prize would have to go to the one with gluten. I may be becoming gluten-free intolerant.

Just unwrapped my presents. It was pretty slim this year; I got the much-vaunted Vox VT20X amp (which is amazing, by the way), and two gifts from the Acorn catalog: a T-shirt with a bunch of crows and the word "MURDER!" on it, and an authentic Basque beret. I thought it would be interesting, although putting it on, it's kind of hard for me to pull off the look. No matter how hard I try, I just find myself looking like a Chinese mandarin. It could just be all the extra space in the hat. Well, at least I'm supporting the local Basque in their quest for autonomy in my own little way.

[Edit: Fixed the problem. It seems the key involves keeping the little leatherette sweatband inside the cap entirely.]

Just uploaded some holiday pictures to an Imgur album here.  Among the featured items is the pavlova that we baked last night.  It's... rather large.  We wrapped up the two smaller ones and put them into the freezer.

It's alarmingly cold today, -27°C (windchill -40).   Almost time to get the oven going and bake the nut loaf I made yesterday, which will make the kitchen ever so slightly warmer.
