What's the town like since the price of oil hit the shitter?

At work, overhearing all the know it all’s trying to one up each other. If it wasn’t so annoying it might be funny.

Look up, smile, and say quietly but just loud enough to be heard, "I know when you're all going to die!"

Then just go back to work.

I hate heels.

I wear heels a lot, but they're comfortable. Like high wedges, really. Not spiky heels. I hate those. 

Flats sound like a nice change.

I personally think that the style of flat shoes with the round fronts that seemed be all the rage with women I knew at work (I retired a little over 3 years ago) were probably the most sensible shoe. My wife has wide feet, and fortunately doesn't like pain-inducing high heels, either. It's high comedy for women (or men, for that matter) to wear a pointy shoe. If I did that, the tapering part would be about 5 or 6 inches long. If I wore a boot or shoe that was 18" long, I'd look (and feel) like a freaking idiot. I knew women who followed the pointy-shoe trend who had shoes about 14 inches long, and that was in a heel, so you know that there was this pointy flipper about 4 or 5 inches long with no foot in it. Crazy.

I don't understand why high heels are supposed to be so sexy. Oftentimes they look hideous, and more important, terribly uncomfy and unsafe. I have no concept of that part of the body, but it always looks like tragedy is about to happen.

With OPEC scaling back, domestic oil has been on the rise. Bad for the environment, but at what I make, very good for me. Field work almost always means time-and-a-half overtime.  

Williston really isn't a bad town, and unlike places like Gillette, WY. it never got the big head that oil booms tend to bring. So, as the oil money faded, it pretty much just returned to normal. It's just too fucking cold for my tastes, It's bloody April and the high this week is going to be a balmy 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It's supposed to be in the 70s all week at home! It could be worse though. An engineer buddy of mine was living three weeks of every four in Minot, ND., over the winter. Average daytime highs of 24 degrees... below zero. So, I'll count my blessings.

High heels lift the legs so that the calves and buttocks exhibit more curvature. I also suspect that the extra effort of keeping balanced on them increases the muscle strength of the legs. I'm not a kinesiologist, so I can't verify that suspicion.

Then, there's the whole thing about legs that are many inches longer, thus looking more sleek. I don't know about that for sure, though. I personally agree with you about how high heels are probably quite uncomfortable.
