Ordered some more potentially intriguing "fake tortoise shell" picks: the Fender Tru-Shell 551-shape Extra-Heavy (one of those proprietary protein-based picks that's supposed to sound like a real tortoise-shell pick), and the Clayton Jazz Horn picks (the same as the ones I ordered a few weeks ago except this time, they're in the Jazz III shape I'm accustomed to.) And some other Clayton Horn picks. This may or may not be it with regards to expensive substitutes of tortoise-shell picks (unless A: I go for those Timber Tone Jazz Tones, B: they develop something else new that intrigues me in this area especially with a Jazz III size [which is likely], C: I stop being a cheap sumbitch and get a Red Bear [Fun Fact: After I got into the faux-tortoise-shell game, I remembered the time I bought a "Jellifish" pick for $10 sometime around 2003, back before we collectively realised they're misleadingly marketed. I've made it a policy to not even bother with picks that cost more than that apiece (plus inflation), roughly $14 today], or D: they somehow manage to domesticate the hawksbill turtle and create a legal AND sustainable method of harvesting their shells for guitar picks or manage to fully synthesise it.)

Also, I'm watching The Skin I Live In, the tale of an extraordinary scientific breakthrough (an artificial skin that's tough enough to be resistant to burns and insect bites), whose inception is couched in a jaw-dropping level of horror. Seriously, of the leads, probably the most sympathetic of the four leads sparks off the plot by raping a woman. Why is he the most sympathetic one? Well, just wait and see what happened to him (especially afterward). I haven't seen scientific discovery married to human horribleness of this magnitude since I discovered The Knick and I think I love it.

Watching The Thinking Atheist forum die a slow painful death.  Posts and threads slipping away through the holes in the bottom of the bucket.  People saying goodbye.

It's hard.

Don't get me wrong-----I am soooooo grateful for the welcome here, but TTA was my first atheist home and some of the goodbyes are downright heart wrenching.
