RE: What's everyone up to right now?

(This post was last modified: February 27, 2019 at 2:27 am by Rev. Rye.)
Yesterday was a busy day, from having to enter the payments for the rent in the company database (which proved to be virtually impossible, since, despite being given clear-cut figures for how much each of my boss' rentors had to pay for each given month, alarmingly few of the payments actually added up, and he didn't take notes on who paid when), to going to my Business Ethics Class, and having to write up my take on Vaxxed for the Deep Hurting Project in the Last Movie You Watched thread. As is expected from a movie directed by disgraced former doctor Andrew Wakefield, this promotes utter bullshit views about autism and vaccines. And, of course, there's so much bullshit I couldn't catch it all immediately.
At one point while I was taking a leak a few minutes ago, I thought back to the scientist who claimed that the rates of autism have increased at an almost perfectly exponential rate, all the way up to the point where they expect half of all children (including 80% of boys) in 2032 to have autism. And then I realised: this whole exponential model makes no fucking sense. Even if you grant that vaccines cause autism (a bullshit claim for reasons that have been explained to death elsewhere, including that post), then why would kids be growing more sensitive to whatever mechanism is supposed to be causing it, especially since vaccines are meant to be given to everyone? That might make sense for a communicable disease, but autism isn't that. Even the idiots who get interviewed for this film aren't that fucking stupid.
Well, I expect I’ve got better films to wrack my brain about; at the very least, I got Ninotchka at HPB and I just ordered a copy of the 7 Faces of Dr. Lao online; here’s hoping it comes before the weekend and I deal with a horrible film I have less investment in this time around.

Stressing a bit.
In the next three weeks I need to have the house staged for sale, which includes several days of handyman work for hire, pro cleaning, pro yard prep, roof cleaning, and vacating the premesis.
We'll be living at a state park or RV from listing til we close on the new place, which realistically is mid-March til sometime in June or July. Though it just so happens that we had planned on buying a travel trailer for traveling North America and we can get by for 4 or 5 months if necessarily. I pulled the trigger on one last night, I'll pick it up next week. We haven't made arrangements for where we're going to park it yet. So many bigger fish to fry ATM.
I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to hire out the work. I could have done some of it, but it wouldnt be as good. My agent's price assessment (if we did the work) was quite a bit higher than I expected. There have been cost overruns on work, but even so, even if i have to put more in after inspection I'll be happy as long as we get asking price and the concessions aren't excessive.
I didn't think we were going to be able to do this so long as I was subject to my divorce property settle and child support order. We found a way to make it work and we are thrilled. We live in a small house in a bad neighborhood, circumstances and necessity found me buying this place to get out of my apartment and get skin back in the game by buying on contract. It's worked out.
The Jackalopes are moving' on up.

Good luck with the sale.
I'm on my fourth house. Have looked at hundreds of houses for sale sineI sold my first house in 1981. I found i couldn't trust agent's estimates. There's plenty of information about prices houses in your area have gotten. I was gutted by my divorce, having to move from a 'dress circle suburb', to a "dormitory suburb"
Your travel plans sound wonderful . I envy you. I always did something similar after I retired. Didn't because I could't see myself doing that alone.

Good luck, Jackalope. I know the feeling. When I had to temporarily move to a new apartment after years of being dug in and having let things basically accumulate, I cried many nights because I was afraid I couldn't do everything that needed to be done in the time I had to do it.
My challenges these days are pretty light. Drinking this pot of coffee. Keeping going to the gym regularly (this morning). And trying not to slip into a funk.

Trying to decide whether to go to the hospital today or tomorrow. I need to talk to their records department about having some records faxed over to my clinic. The advantage to doing it today is that I'm already showered and dressed because I'm going to the gym today. Tomorrow I had planned to lounge around in my underwear, eat hoho's, and drink coffee. I don't have to get showered and dressed for that. The downside is that today is expected to be considerably colder than tomorrow. So I have to choose one or the other, the bother of getting showered and dressed, or the bother of going out when it's bitterly cold. I'm leaning towards preserving my unadulterated hoho eating experience and going today.

Yeah I have done my own checking on comparables and I think she's right. This will be me fourth house - after the divorce, I moved from a beautiful country home on acreage to tiny place in a sketchy neighborhood - but that purchase ended up being one of the best investments I've ever made. So not complaining.

I had a real estate deal I thought was closing on the first fall through. Sucks. Ripples down through a planned acquisition that we won't be able to make, now - and that acquisition was tied to our business' growth plans. Couple that with a historic low return.
I'll recoup all of it and more next year..but it's another year, it's frustrating.
Sigh

@Gae
Heh... I definitely can't have the purchase fall through, we're about to be homeless.
