Finally went back to the store after a week-long cold. At one point around 3:30, two kids came into the store and locked the door. Nick and I yelled at him to unlock the door, which he did. When they left, the boss told us to not yell at the customers, he said "doesn't it seem like something your brothers would have done when they were younger?" Well, when I thought about what could happen, well, it was more like this:



I spent a lot of time between the locking and the yelling weighing my options: do I leave and hope they don't kill me, hide behind the counter and hope they don't figure out how to work the hinge door on the counter or go under it, or do I go for one of the glass bottles? And in those seconds, it didn't matter that these kids were junior high schoolers. And I know the kid who didn't lock the door, and if he had a future in crime, well, it would likely be of a more... chemical nature. I can remember going to Jewel and running into him and he started ordering candy. And we were in the paper towels aisle. I feel like I should have explained to them exactly what could have happened if they had tried that with a more paranoid and more armed shopkeeper. Then again, it's not like I'm their parents. Hopefully, that yell was enough to chasten them.

What kind of tea?

Just generic black tea from Walmart. I like good tea, but I'm also happy with just plain old black tea.

Admittedly, the fact that these were sixth to eighth graders does change the dynamic significantly. And the fact they were both... significantly melanated makes it even more awkward. Shit. If that revelation makes that incident and my reaction all the more unsettling, well, that’s only a sign you’re still sane. If those kids did that in the wrong store, with someone who actually had lethal weapons, we'd be dealing with something horrible. And then I find myself wondering if it's even my place to tell them that they could end up like [Insert unarmed black guy who got shot of your choice here] if they keep this up.

House is empty, just have one run to storage and a dump run to do. Roofers are tearing the old roof off. Visiting my brother in the hospital (hip replacement).

Just came home from a pretty full day. I had to go to the Skokie campus testing center to finally take the Business Ethics midterm I couldn’t take on Monday because I was really sick. It was challenging, but I think I got it down. Also, at one point, he asked a question about the business ethics challenges illegal immigrants might face, and, interestingly, made the immigrant family in this example from Argentina. A subtle hint at exactly which part of Latin America he’s from?

I got to work about 40 minutes late, but I warned the boss about it beforehand. It might have been less time if the Skokie campus didn’t close the cafeteria on Friday, and the Subway near the school wasn’t still burned out and empty and I didn’t have to go back to Kaufman’s for a sandwich.

And then I came home to find this:

Dad seems to have almost all the externals down. That said, the first two knobs are askew, the AC-Tone (and most of the wiring) has yet to be installed, and we still need the back panel for the line out and power out, but progress is certainly progressing on the Vaux.

Umm ,technical incompetent here. Would please explain that using small words?

 EG This week, I pushed the limits of my expertise; I attached a new latch to the lounge room sliding door; my dog had worked out how to open the last one.Even used my electric drill to make little holes to help inserting the screws. Still managed to miss one screw..  New latch works fine, which was a pleasant surprise, on a first attempt.

Watching the new half-season of Arrested Development, which may or may not be the last. It's not as good as the previous seasons.
