What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Not much. It's raining. I was going to go to an outdoor concert tonight, but even if it stops raining, I have no intention of sitting in the wet grass.

For Memorial Day, Dad and I went to Rolling Stone Records In Norridge, an old-school-style record store that’s only slightly downsized from its old days (and even then, they just took some counters that used to house CDs (there’s still plenty, though) and replaced them with vinyl.

Here’s what I got:

There was still a bunch of other interesting stuff, just not enough to convince me to buy, like this, the most unthreatening horror title I’ve ever seen.

To be fair, director Bill Zebub, the director, does specialise in schlocky horror movies, with sample titles like Antfarm Dickhole, The Worst Horror Movie Ever Made, Jesus the Total Douchebag, The Most Offensive Comedy Ever Made, Jesus Christ Serial Rapist, Nightmare on ELMO's Street, Santa Christ: Serial Rapist, Forgive Me For Raping You, Zombiechrist, and Dolla Morte. The last three were covered by Diamanda Hagan and, after figuring out he was behind Don't Drink The Milk, I looked for those last three. They were not available. And I figured that it wasn't worth buying it just for the novelty of the title. At least, not now.

And also, in the category of “what the fucking hell is that?” There’s this reissue of Skip Spence’s Oar:

This is a three-disc version of the cult Skip Spence solo album Oar, containing a shitton of material not on the actual album, but it failed to include the one Skip Spence track I knew they left out of their initial re-releases of Oar.

Also, they fail to include another song called "All My Life (You Know I Love You)," but this is the one I'm really pissed about. Just listen to it. As you listen to it, you just know you're descending into Hell, and somehow, your Vergil throughout this is late-period Robert Mitchum on decades' worth of antipsychotics. I fucking love it. The bulk of the album was recorded around 1969, between Skip Spence having a breakdown that led to him trying to exorcise one of his Moby Grape bandmates with an axe and his schizophrenia leading to him just dropping off the radar. However, this was recorded in 1996, and he made this in the hopes of having it be part of the X-Files, either on the series itself or on Songs in the Key of X: Music from and Inspired by the X-Files. It was apparently rejected for being too creepy for them. Eventually, they released it on a tribute album for Oar as a hidden track, and with "All My Life" on a seven-inch. But for some reason, they did not include it as a bonus track on this three-disc set. One would think there'd be enough room on at least one of the discs.

Sadly, it is kind of out of the way, and it's kind of expensive. No wonder I only went there once a year when I went there regularly.

"Bill Zebub"!?  Hilarious Like that's not a nom de plume.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

To quote Bill Zebub himself:

Quote:When I started my fanzine “The Grimoire of Exalted Deeds,” [Around 1993] I wanted each writer’s name to be a play on a demon’s name. I was Bill Zebub. There was also a Lee Viathan and a Muffy Stopholes. It was purely for fun and I had no idea that the name would stick.

So, it pretty much is. And given how he's a death metal fan with a weird sense of humour, I suppose there's a reason it stuck. Don't know his real name, and it doesn't seem to be floating around the internet, so clearly it has stuck.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
