Brewing a pot of Twinings Irish breakfast tea. There's a baseball game at 1 o'clock, then it's reading and therapy work. I've got a bunch of books out from the library that I haven't even looked at.

When I came home from the store, I saw this little guy on the sidewalk.



This bird (Merlin tells me it’s a red-eyed vireo) almost looked like it was still alive, just sleeping. But prodding its body revealed rigor mortis. I’m going to assume that a live bird probably wouldn’t have rolled so smoothly, like it was an inanimate object. No signs of life, it just managed to die on my sidewalk this afternoon. It, a native of South America, came to Skokie to breed, but ended up dying instead, like an avian Gustav Aschenbach.

Dad buried it in the backyard. I don’t know where it was buried exactly. The last time it happened, I buried it near the pond, and even played this song after I laid dirt on its corpse:



Then again, that one was a crow, and If my research is accurate, crows are a lot more intelligent than most of the people I knew in high school. So that was just due to the dead.
