What's everyone up to right now?

I've got a 1600ft2 shop and I'm jelly, is all I'm saying.  I cut my teeth on cnc back in the day and I still don't have a machine.

I used to work at a place in the mid-'90s as a consultant. They sold scanners for use in testing antennas. I designed and had some of the equipment built. I know what it takes, but didn't really see a reason for building one for myself, then. I should have done it then, from spare parts.  Angel   My work space is so tight that I have to walk through most of it sideways, and have to open the roll-up garage door to get to the front. I also have a 12" lunch box planer, a 10" drum sander and a bench top drill press in a vertical stack to save space.

Honestly, if I do end up doing CNC carving, I'm buying the machine already built.

Me too, I just like knowing that I could make one, if I wanted to. I used to do missiles and avionics. Man I wish I had a real chunk of that change now.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Here's some more spindle therapy pr0n. It doesn't get much better than carving an engine block on a 5 axis.

That's some gorgeous work, right there! One thing that I will say is that a lot of mechanical guys like to see the mill marks in the final products. I used to design mechanical tools, and they got 300 grit finishing to remove those mill marks, and also got a .030 radius on all outside edges. It doesn't cost any more than a chamfer, and they were silky smooth in the hand during use. That radius was important, because if a wire had the insulation nicked, the whole harness got replaced. Many tens of thousands of dollars down the drain. That's one example of a tool. I also designed mechanical ground support equipment, which was a lot easier, in some ways. It took me less time to design a structure than it did for some analyst to make sure that it was earthquake stable. Kind of a joke, because I designed one structure that was of a large size, and when I designed another that was smaller, but using the same size components, the project still got billed for 80 hours of analysis, despite the fact that it was 1/4 the volume, thus way stiffer. But, what can you do?

Well, I picked up the good movies I had put a hold on at the library last week. Oogieloves is still in limbo for whatever reason, and I added another Deep Hurting Project film to the list: Larry the Cable Guy in Witless Protection. Hopefully, I'll have two films to subject myself to this week.

Microsoft is closing all retail stores worldwide (83) except 4.
Sad for employees but truthfully, who knew they even had retail stores?

I thought their new EDGE browser was by far the most popular browser used to download Linux! Hehe
