One reason that I fixed the old AM2 motherboard is because it died while attached to 12 TB of data. I could swap in a different board as the formatting info is embedded in the data store, so it's basically agnostic as to the specifics of the host hardware, but I suspect there's nothing worth saving in that 12 TB data store that I don't have elsewhere. I'd still like to know, I just don't know how much effort I want to devote to the question. I suppose I'll see if Windows still runs and then maybe throw everything back together.

My old install of Windows Server booted up fine. I want to test some hard disk scanning tools. There's one that I know works, but I don't feel like paying for it.

I went to FreeGeeks electronics thrift store. I hoped to find a motherboard speaker cheap. No such luck.

Yesterday, I discovered that there is apparently an issue with Customs and how it seems like there’s evidently a real issue with Frenchmen selling 11 cm square pouches with Emil Cioran quotes to Americans. It’s apparently enough that they’re willing to destroy them instead of sending them back. Fortunately, it turns out that it’s probably easy to make one very similar to the one I tried to get:


The base pouch is evidently easy to find online. All you need to do is search “11 cm pouch” and you’ll find a pouch with everything but the Emil Cioran quote.

Fortunately, the seller included an image of the raw image he used for the pouch:


I was able to figure out that the font used was Contract Regular, and I also found the official translation of the quote, and as a result, I was able to get pretty close to the original with my English version:

Maybe I was a bit off with the font colour and maybe the design is a bit less sophisticated, and I know I didn’t include the film grain effect, but I did what I could with my limited ability.

Fortunately, I also recieved a custom pin in the mail (specifically the “People are no damn good” pin to the right of the gold Autism infinity pin), which tells me that at least some packages are getting through customs.

Found a better image overlay website for the English version and used a paint tool to turn two en dashes into a proper em dash.



And when the pouches arrive, Dad and I can do the heat transfer process.

I think I’ve become immune to the wakefulness effect of caffeine. I can have a cup or two just before bed and it doesn’t stop me dropping off.

Of course, I have to get up an hour later to pee, but that’s neither here nor there.
