I'm curious what "ice wine" is, just chilled?

Wine made from grapes that have frozen on the vine.  I've had it once and found it much too sweet for my tastes (prefer wines in the dry range).

I'm going to plug in the car heater for half an hour or so to get the chill out of the oil, and then I'm going out for coffee.

My dad grew up on a farm in Minnesota. He remembers seeing his dad set a small pile of hay on fire under the engine to melt the oil so he could start the car. Confused  I wouldn't want to live like that, though I have spent two entire winters in Idaho, so I know what you are talking about.

This past September marked 40 years since I moved to Winnipeg.  I actually like it when it's between -5C and -10C, because that's a good time to grab my snowshoes and go stomping around on forest trails, annoying the wildlife. "It's a deer!"  *squee*


Car should be good to go now.  It's a mere -20C right now. (grabs hat, coat, mitts, boot and purse and sets course for coffee)

Whaddya mean, you too. You're in Cali. It never gets cold enough there to need to plug in your car to warm your oil before driving!

I know you're joking. I've camped in the Sierras where temperatures routinely fall below freezing. It even gets well below freezing in the desert, quite regularly.
