Starting to assemble stuff for my trip. I can't pack till tomorrow evening because my clarinet and music are currently in the knapsack, and I can't check in and download the boarding pass till 24 hours before the flight, but most of the paperwork and some of the clothes are ready to go. (At least this time there'll be room in the knapsack; when I went down to Carbondale, Illinois last year for the solar eclipse, I was packing a blanket and an air mattress.)

Oh, and I broke down and bought the tablet I was coveting. It's currently charging up.

Debating with myself about whether I should kick my current auto insurance company to the curb. After over 31 years of doing business with them, they're balking at replacing a windshield damaged in a hail storm, claiming it's a rock chip.

I should have known as soon as I heard I had to take the car to a special site where adjusters would assess the damage that I was going to get fucked!

Where is the damage? If it interferes with your vision, i.e., not in the lower right portion of the windshield or something, it should be replaced. One of my cars got hit by another car. Your insurance company should have sent you a letter explaining that they cannot by law require you to take the vehicle to a specific shop for repairs. That is unlawful, and you should notify the state insurance commissioner of that failure. Of course, you may then be cancelled by them for that. YMMV

They're not requiring I take it to a specific shop, but that I had to take it to their "catastrophe response" site to get the appraisal done. I'm gonna fight this as hard as I can, and if they refuse to cover the windshield replacement I'll be searching for replacement insurance for the first time on over 30 years.

Yep. The glitches that made it unwatchable are still there. Admittedly, it's a bit less glitchy (and it holds a bit longer on the shot of Delores after Lee's last stand before cutting to the bookshelf), so there's still hope that it might actually stay watchable at some point. Then again, I may get Dad to dub the copy on the DVR to a DVD, since apparently that version doesn't have a glitch.
