I just realized how utterly quiet the house is now that we are essentially empty nesters.

Set up my new ChromeCast. The procedure wasn't as painless as I expected it to be, and I thought I had met with defeat at several points in the process. For some reason, in setup, my computer couldn't find the device. But once set up, casting from the computer works fine. And weirdly, the sound from casting music from my computer seems in some ways superior to that I get from my Roku. Better bass response, oddly enough. (Well, maybe. It's possible the ChromeCast is just bass heavy. There's a substantial volume difference between the two, so it's hard to tell.)

Trying to wallpaper a wooden cabinet? It's all the rage apparently.. I can't match the pattern and it's pissing me off big style.
After three consecutive Ravinia concerts have ended in me failing to complete the concert (Earth Wind and Fire because of long shuttle lines, Milos Karadaglic because we got messages saying our basement was flooded, and Jethro Tull because it got rained out), I’m finally on the RAvinia lawn waiting for Yes with Anderson, Rabin, and Wakeman to begin in two hours, cold be damned (both the windchill and my admittedly weakening case.)

Watching Fergus zoom around his tank and waiting for the dinner bell. Started a second tank cycling so it's ready to go in November when I go on vacation.

Also, I finished the Yes concert, although I honestly suspect that I'd have preferred seeing the version of the band with Steve Howe (especially since A: I'm not a big fan of the Trevor Rabin era, especially since at least one of the songs played tonight sounded like a pale imitation of Rush, and B: Rabin was doing the harmonics in "Roundabout" all wrong, with the volume swells on every note ruining the effect), but, overall, it was a pretty good show. "Heart of the Sunrise" in particular was a highlight. Even though I'm not particularly well, I wound up dancing (or, rather, doing what might be grant-worthy for the Ministry of Silly Walks and occasionally shaking like I'm in the first second or two of a petit mal siezure.) That said, apparently, someone was judging me for wearing a John Fogerty T-shirt to a Yes concert. That said A) I tend to pick my shirts randomly, except on special occasions where I have a suitable T-shirt, and B) I don't own a Yes T-shirt. Copies of Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, and 90125, and a concert DVD I thought was poorly shot, yeah, but no T-shirt.

I went on a baking ingredients scavenger hunt and scored some freeze-dried strawberries for a recipe we want to try. Ludicrously expensive (about $15 CDN for one cup), so hopefully the recipe will be omnomnomnom. My daughter is also plotting something that involves cashews and powdered milk, and now that we have a few pecans we can make tarts.
Summertime band's last gig of the season is tomorrow night, so I worked on a few of the trickier phrases. All packed except for my music stand light, which is probably recharged now and I can toss it into my knapsack. And I did a bit of writing, transcribing and rewriting a few pages from a novel first draft into Google Docs. Amazing how much one's writing style can change in 12 years -- well, not really. I'd be worried if my style didn't change. |
