Flying home for Christmas on Monday.

Get to ignore the rellies' attempts to get me to church.

Then it's just me, my car, an open road, and optional speed limits for a couple of weeks.

Not gonna lie, I'd probably shell out a few more sawbucks for at least the Les Paul Special-II E1 Ebony. At least it has proper humbuckers.

Meh. I'm not averse to the single coil pickups. Looking down at my Strat, I can see the last time I played it, I was playing on the neck pickup. Sure, they're typically noisier (though they make some mighty quite ones these days), but you can also wring tones out of them that you can't get from humbuckers, just as you can get tones from humbuckers that single coils can't produce. I'm all about variety.  The Firefly has humbuckers at neck and bridge, the Ibanez has the same, and the Strat is an S-S-H setup with a Floyd Rose. If the single coils on the Epiphone are crap, some upgraded single coil, or even single space humbucking upgrades, are all it would need, and I've got that cool white over black finish vs. the all black.

I know, but the sight of a Fender-style single coil in a Les Paul body has always struck me as... fundamentally wrong.

Been sewing, filled the bird feeders, ran the dishwasher, put away the grocery delivery. Day off and just rambling around.

Our Christmas plans had to change because my son has to make sure that people have their Pepsi and Mt. Dew so he has to work Christmas Eve, and he works night shift. Since the kids will have had big meals earlier in the day on Christmas, we are just doing some snacks and desserts so we can at least get together to exchange gifts and see one another even if only for a short time.

With work schedules and The Bail's college, it's getting trickier to get everyone together.
