Poor puppy.

Our last dog went similarly with a congestive heart. We put him to sleep when he became permanently frightened. Until then, we just pet him a lot and carried him to the rooms we were in since he still wanted to be with us even though he couldn't walk the walk. He died in my arms. I cried buckets.

Ahh reminds me of poor old Fletcher at the end. Still had so much gusto for life but the ticker was done at 14 years 2 months. Even when I was wheeling him around the dog park in a wheelbarrow at the end he would still charm people into greeting him and give puppies an intimidating eye.

I'm crying. Buddy is headed to the rainbow bridge. He just went septic and his organs are shutting down. What a special dog. Dammit.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Several years ago we lost our Welsh Springer Spaniel, William - don't ask - after he suffered a stroke. He seemed to recover, but wandered around as though in a daze. He'd walk up to a wall as if he didn't know what was in his way and would just stand there. Finally one day he went into the garden and after plodding around for a while, he just collapsed and wouldn't get up. The decision to take him to the vet was one of the hardest moments of my life up to then, and he wasn't the first nor the last animal we've lost.

All my thoughts are with you, SC.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Savor who the dog was, Steel. It will always be worth it to have had a great dog in your life. That never goes away.

I'm sorry, Steel. You're doing the right thing, as hard as that is.

I only wish he had a family and could have known what it was to be a part of a pack. He was in several foster homes including mine for the past few months, but he made an impression on each and every one of us. I will miss that dog. He's been in the rescue for 4 months, and there are no less that 15 people here to be with him when he goes. It is a testament to how awesome a dog he was.

RIP Buddy
