While this may not be popular post, there is a grain of truth to the OP. The arguments in favor of atheism are overwhelming, while atheism and its proponents have become much more prominent in recent years. Its quite easy to win debates on the subject without developing any real intellectual depth. To call yourself an atheist and defend the position used to be much harder than it is now. Much less independent thinking is required because the best talking points have already been pointed out by people like Richard Dawkins. Those of us who came before had to figure it out for ourselves.

LOL. Thanks but I'm only 32. When I came of age, AOL was dominant and the Internet as you know it was in its infancy. I learned much more through introspection and debate than anything someone else wrote.

I don't really feel ashamed of employing a correct answer just because it's an old one. Sure, I employ counter apologetics that I read somewhere else, but it a conclusion has weight then it doesn't matter if I thought it up myself or not.

I'd rather be correct and called a dullard, than creative but incorrect. Happily, I can usually be both of the former.

I don't really care about popularity, but once you get a few years of trying to argue with theists you will find yourself wasting your time, e.g. the playing chess with a pigeon allegory. There may be atheist fanboys of Dawkins, Hitchens, etc, but they don't really matter to me, all there is, is layer after layer of bullshit, and if you are willing to entertain that, be my guest. I prefer to discuss matters sans imaginary beings. I am open to know any gods, but I don't want it to be a personal whim that I push into others, because I feel it.

My initial introspection was at the nice age of 10. At the time, I though I was the only person aware of the possibility of the non existence of god... silly me...

I came to the same conclusion many years ago. Its why I prefer to leave that sort of thing to people still figuring it out.

I started questioning it even earlier, when I was maybe six or seven. I had strong suspicions even then.

Then you will never have the depth of someone who had to work things out on their own. Its like comparing someone who created a new industry to someone who merely followed them.
