[split] Dependents and money for consoles

The lines are very blurred here. In my living room i have a bare bones x86 PC. It's specs arn't great but connected to my TV its more than adequate to play roms as recent as the N64 era. It's primary use it to play games. the only peripheral connected to it is a bt adapter to sync up with the PS3 controllers I'm using. Id go as far as to say that this machine was designed for gaming and just gaming.

In my bedroom I have a playstation3. It's got the specks of a mid range gaming rig. Its powered by Gentoo Linux. It triple boots between Gentoo, Fedora and Sony's game OS. Installed on the playstation is a full desktop environment from which you can access a full office suite, a developers IDE for C/C++, art packages and web browsers. This machine has access to all of my network's functionality. It can scan, print and share files between other devices. All of which was accomplished with no illegitimate back door hacking or bug exploitations to get the operating systems installed in the first place. They were put there using tools provided by the manufacturer.

Which of these best fits the description of "games console"?

Fine, perhaps I should have made myself a bit clearer. What I wanted to do was design a console (i.e. compact, not just a desktop computer), with easily upgradable parts, and an OS specifically designed for console gaming.

Console = solid state. We don't want those daughter boards slowing things up and making them huge.

So you'd basically be making and shipping devices similar to the bare bones box in my living room?

Quote:I guess, but it would be more powerful and probably more sleek [and more expensive]

It would be really nice to do that though, to keep it small, perhaps use parts from netbooks.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Hence my parents giving in and just getting her a console. Plus she used to play on my own. She also never played with dolls. It's a completely different thing, considering when I was a child Barbie was the big deal, for her it's Pokemon.

Well, my point was simply the 12 year gap, that was all lol. The only similarity :S

Yes I'm silly...

Soz.

And yes, it must be hard being a child who has to play on their own. That's why we all chip-in from time to time and entertain the youngest, my 8 year old bro. Because it's always been a different situation for him, being the youngest of 5.
