Can you believe in the idea of 'the soul' and still be an atheist? Surely atheists can believe in some higher life form somewhere that exists in some immaterial, energetic, 'quantum' formlessness? It's a pretty big and amazing uni/multiverse out there. Right Mr Sagan?
My son and myself are both being kicked out of the house this evening until tomorrow morning so my daughter can have her own Halloween party. The house currently looks like a crypt!
Halloween is the only holiday I acknowledge and do not mind celebrating. I have not dressed up in years, however. The last time I did, it was as Britney Spears, resembling her look from the music video Stronger, though my outfit was sexier.

If you're suggesting that the self-awareness generated by the human brain survives after death, then.... no. And I do like Halloween
It's starting to become more popular here in Aus, but I've not had one trick or treater all night
I was prepared for it and all.

That is hypocrisy of the most laughable kind." Derren Brown - Tricks of the Mind.

huh. I just realized it's Halloween today. You know what I want to know? Where are all the ghosts? When I was a believer I TOtally believed in ghosts. Can't say I ever saw one or knew anyone who had. But everyone believed in them. I read a thread not long ago about someones dog or cat or something dying after they dared god to kill it. I did the same thing. My dog is still here I even in cited the devil himself to throw his worst at me. Still waiting I'd seriously like to experience something 'supernatural ' be it good or bad, just so I know.
So. Theists: send me your worst demon ghost possible. I dAre your god-- or Satan for that matter, to do their worst. Bring it on! Oh and Happy Halloween!
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite. Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment. Quote:Some people deserve hell. I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
It's not a tradition in Portugal...
Some people (ahem, stores) are trying to bring it in... but I don't think they're succeeding... or I'm just getting old and don't look in the right places. Have you ever noticed that in the majority of ghost movies, the hauntings and possessions tend to happen to those who are religious believers?
