It seems unnecessary, but understandable if the circumstances calls for it. I'm in the same boat as Doubting Thomas, even though I live primarily in a Democratic County that doesn't mean anything. There are still plenty of Christians who wouldn't take too kindly if they knew my honest beliefs in some things. Some of them I have to live with.

"Coming out" as atheist
|
I came out to my family a few years back, since it was a big deal to them.
With others I have no need to come out, because I am so open about it that there is no question about it. I am open because I want others who are also atheists to feel comfortable around me. It seems that everyone is catholic or Christian around here, so if anybody is in the closet about being atheist, being around me must be like a breath of fresh air. Plus I get sick of hearing "I'll pray for you even if you don't believe", so I make them put up with my FSM comments as much as I put up with their stuff. Sheyet.
Pointing around: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out!"
Half Baked "Let the atheists come to me, and stop keeping them away, because the kingdom of heathens belongs to people like these." -Saint Bacon |
