The etiquette of rep
RE: The etiquette of rep
Yeah, me too. People should say what they think. Other people will disagree. That's why we log on, to help the people out who are wrong. Smile

But seriously, Chas is okay with me. I withdraw the enema joke although I won't be sucking it Wink. That had as much to do with our different valuation of rationality generally. I just have a different opinion about Apo. I enjoy her too and have a different idea of what moderation should be about.

Chas, I do think we benefit from having theists here. First, we are being freethinkers. Closing our eyes to see what they have to say would be just like... well, what a lot of religious people tend to do. I like having them around. It gives us stuff to talk about. Second, some of them are great! Still, I don't think there is something wrong with you expressing your thoughts on negative rep. If it's because of your choice of words (calling people pussies), I find it weird, since that's pretty much the normal around here. Why are we so soft all of a sudden? The man would like some mean reppin. Big deal. I don't like it, I think it's gross, but the man thinks it would be nice.

I like Apo. She's nice sometimes and sometimes she's scary. It might depend on her coffee maker, the bus schedule, if the people in her meditation group (I think that's what it was) say her name right, etc. Her ramblings to herself in shoutbox are adorable.

This is where I take out my peace advocacy sign and say, "Peace!" With a deep and manly voice. Why? Because yes.

Please don't misinterpret not wanting theists as mods/admins as not wanting them around. Those are very different things.

You can bash her for being an idiot, given a reasoning of somekind, but to go to town on her moderation capabilities without that kind of knowledge is unfair, you may have moderated other forums, it doesn't mean you know how this one works.

I am not bashing her for being a moderator. I said I don't think it's appropriate for her to be a moderator.

So I guess I'm bashing the forum management.Thinking

Noted. You can put that tube down now.

I'm sure Apo is fun to have around - smart, funny, wicked. Just not on staff.

I get the sentiment about 'delusions', but I actually think this site has benefited and will continue to benefit from having non-atheist staff members, so long as their beliefs play no role in their moderating. Personally I'm sick of this image that seems to be out there that atheists are branded with. That we all want the world to burn and that we all bash on non-atheists constantly almost to the point of irrationality (don't get me wrong, we do for the most part and with good reason, but not all of us are intent on being anti-theists (also for good reason)). I think having non-atheist staff members goes a fairly long way to dispelling that bullshit, at least in our little corner of the web.

I think we've had some, shall we say, questionable characters in the past doing the moderating and I still think they did a good job. I don't think I've ever seen any evidence of Apo being a bully, all I will say is half the time I don't understand what she means in her posts.

If it's any consolation I didn't mean you, and I also didn't mean it as a jab at anyone. I simply meant we've had more aggressive posters than Apo be moderators, and they've always done their job bloody well as far as what I could see.

Yeah but you didn't give me an estimated time of arrival, I thought it must of been a mistake.

I'm happy to entertain Chas' opinion in the matter. I think, perhaps, he may be exhibiting a bit of irrationalia himself here, but it's not yet completely clear to me precisely what he thinks and why he thinks it. He does contribute meritorious points to discussions, so I would simply like to know more fully what he has on his mind. Specifically, does he object to me personally as a moderator, or theists in general, and why? What is his theory of the way things work, and why I myself, or Rayaan, then, on that theory, make poor choices.

is it bullying if she's right?Thinking
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
