Indeed, it does help if the guy finds the woman he's with attractive. With all the subjectiveness that goes with that sentence!
I find my wife attractive. I tell her that every day.
Objectively... I remember knowing her for a year and not noticing her over any of the other girls. She would be a 6/10, at most...
Then, on one very specific day, something hit me. I don't know how, nor what it was... but, from then on, she became very pretty and attractive... an 8/10! And that's a keeper! 
Sure, there are prettier girls out there... but my girl is my girl and she likes me back, so I'm happy!  even though she's catholic and all....

Could be worse than Catholic. The ones that are in our family's band of friends are pleasantly live-and-let-live.
And things change with age, as I'm sure has been discussed here. My PT this term is a young, petite 22-ish former gymnast. Blonde-blue. But who knows what she will look like, or be like, long after we part ways. Like, maybe 30 years in the future. Hopefully her man evolves with her.

I get annoyed when people go from "We don't have to force gender roles on people anymore" to "both genders are interchangeable, and fuck evolution." Anyone who has stepped outside Starbucks for more than 3 minutes knows that men and women are different, and looking at the ways in which they are different, it's pretty easy to see why they'd put emphasis on different qualities in a mate.

I read a study just a few months ago where college kids were asked to rate pictures of the opposite gender on how attractive they thought they were.
The men's rating of the pictures of women were all close in agreement on which were attractive and how much so. The women, though, were all over the map when rating the attractiveness of men.

I've met and dated men whom I initially put a "no" on their forehead, but its always always the personality that created the attraction. Intelligence, swagger, personality traits I find admireable.. I don't just initially look at someone and think, "I'd fuck them or I wouldn't fuck them". I look at the whole picture.
Maybe women are just more progressive like that. I know for a fact, those types of relationships based on more than physical attraction (though it is crucial), have a better chance at longevity and positive outcomes. I am going to go ahead and say that some both women and men have different levels of maturity that dictates how they find a mate.
Ehhh I wouldn't say women are "more progressive" than that. More than a few women are entirely shallow in their reasonings. "You are rich, ergo I am attracted." Sounds pretty shallow. Just as an example.
The females of the species want the male with the most rocks. The males of the species want certain physical traits in the females, from selective instinct on both accounts. Success = higher likelihood for survival and ability to provide. Physical appearances: Better genetics, better offspring, who will be successful more likely and more likely to pass on their genes as well.

How can u measure attractiveness?
Actually no one can give an accurate answer for who's attractive and who's not. Someone may be "most people's taste " but we can't assume that all people in the world r attracted to him.
I have a really weird taste in men! For example I find Brad Pitt sooo ugly!! And I'm sure many people don't.
I dont like super white men .. with big beautiful eyes and red soft lips.. !! The weird thing is that my husband is super super white and is nothing like what I ever wanted but still I see him the most attractive man alive
so attraction I think is something has to do with pheromones.
