The probability for the time to show 11:11 is very high. I can calculate it here. Assuming a normal person looks at the time about 20x and the 11:11 shows twice in a 12 hour space:
12 x 60 = 720
Probability of the time NOT to be 11:11 when you look at it:
1 - 2/720 = 0.0027778 = 0.997222
Probability of the time NOT to be 11:11 after looking at it 20x:
0.997222^20 = 0.9458
Probability for the time never to show 11:11 at least once after a week:
0.997222^(7*20) = 0.67 or 33% probability to display 11:11 at least once
Probability for the time never to show 11:11 at least once after a month:
0.997222^(4*7*20) = 0.21 (unlikely) or 79% probability to display 11:11
Probability for the time to show 11:11 at least once, 4 weeks in a row, once every week:
0.33^4 = 1.1% (1% is far from impossible lol)
Probability for the time to show 11:11 at least once, 4 weeks in a row, in a year period:
1-0.989^12 = 12.4%
And this is assuming you only look at the time 20x in 12 hours, some people check it 100x+ lol
Glad to solve the 11:11 mystery xD

Ksa, can I just say (and I mean no offence by this) but I have never read any post of yours all the way through cause of the numbers. You seem to think that every problem can be solved by an equation lol!

Then don't forget the people who freak out over unique dates, like 11-11-2011 (11-11-11), or 11-12-13 last month, etc. Next year they'll think that 12-13-14 is significant.

You guys are a bunch of assholes. My horoscope clearly states that I'm going to be in a superb: physical, mental, and emotional status for a couple days- and it's true!

My car's odometer started out at 66600 a couple days ago, and once I'd finished driving it yesterday the number had gone to 66666, which I guess makes me car double satan now.
But I'm comforted by my feeling that, somewhere in the world, there's a guy who would crush his car as soon as he saw those numbers pop up.

I thought I was getting confirmation or condemnation based on what numbers I was or wasn't seeing. This is going to sound odd coming from a former JW, since they place a lot of emphasis on numbers and especially dates. But they also were very adamant about not being superstitious, at least not in the traditional ways. While they agree that there is significance to numbers like three and seven and 666, they believe that it's only a symbolic significance. So if a JW gets ticket number 666 in a raffle, he or she may joke about it, but is not concerned. And I don't recall any JW who was any more superstitious than your average person, but I know many who were notably less so.
For us, the "proof" of god was really just a preponderance of evidence, and that evidence was simply events that we interpreted as such. That plus the usual urban legends that always occurred to people at least twice removed ("so-and-so told me that her sister's friend saw a ghostly protector walking with some JWs and she became a convert!"). I think we sometimes underestimate the effect of hearing so many of those types of stories, and how easy it is for people who want to believe them to fail to consider how weak they really are. And that makes them very reliable to those whose resolve is strengthened by them.
There are also the ephiphanies, the sudden transcendent feeling that a person gets and which we can interpret any number of ways. It's almost random the way we assign meaning to such occasions, but once we do we can believe pretty strongly. I think that most people live under at least a few heavy blankets of confirmation bias, and religion can be one of those.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
