Poll for Christians: Are the End Times imminent?
Christians, please give the reasons for your belief.

Atheists should not fill out the poll but are welcome to post comments.

RE: Poll for Christians: Are the End Times imminent?
The End Times have been imminent every single generation since the silly Christian religion was created by fallible and corrupt men.

What better way to ensure that people behave than to make them think judgment day is nigh?

It is a con, created by the powerful to maintain control over others. Nothing more.

I would've voted for the last option. I'm not a Christian but if I were I would understand it that way.

If I were still a Christian, I'd say that we don't know. After all, that's what the bible says.

But I knew a bunch of fundamentalist Christians back in the early 90's who were certain that the end times were going to happen very, very soon, like any day. Of course that was 20 years ago and the same signs that other Christians see now are the same ones they were seeing then. What was truly frightening was the enthusiasm they seemed to have when they talked about the Tribulation and end of the world.

But if you're trying to get in on the rapture, too late:

Then it happened again on May 21st, 2011 according to Harold Camping.

I'd say the same if I was an atheist. I'd be surprised if humanity survived the next 50 years based on it's decline towards further destructive tendencies.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

My grandmother thinks we're in the end times right now. We don't have long, Though people were likely saying that as soon as Jesus said to the people in front of them that some of them wouldn't taste death before he came back again. Then they all died, and christians had to move the goal post.

Yeah, I've been quoting that passage at end of world nuts for a few years.

I usually get the "Jesus meant spiritual death" reply.

Jesus meant people as a species, obviously. Not just to the crowd. We've got all these prophesies, and every single one has or will come true, don't you know? You just have to interpret the Word correctly. sand the corners of the square block, and it will surely fit the round hole.

My personal opinion of "prophecies" is that if they're so vague they can be interpreted different ways, then they have no baring on reality. Whether they be biblical or the likes of Nostradamus.

The whole "Isreal will become a nation again" would be more eye opening if it stated the actual year. Well sure, if you have a bunch of believers thinking something's going to happen, they will make it happen. How about that city of Tyr that was supposed to be destroyed and never rebuilt?
