I am 40 years old and am an atheist and have been my entire life. Both my parents were and still are atheists. I grew up in the bible belt of the united states and also went to public schools. I have been surrounded by bible thumpers my entire life. My parents were not perfect by any means and they made a lot of mistakes with me and my other siblings growing up but one thing they did right was to teach us to think critically and to question everything. As a result all the bible thumpers in the world have never been able to convince me that any of their theories make any sense at all. Not sure if that helps but its been my experience that if you raise your kids to think it won't matter what nonsense people throw at them. They will see right through it.

Muslims and Christians approached me all the time talking to me about God and how Jesus sacrificed himself and so on. So I started talking about the Bible too, quoting chapter number, verse number, chapter number, verse number, stating verses to them ad literam proving to them that Jesus never died, that the trinity was a fabrication and so on. Verse after verse I would explain the context to them. Every time, they would smile, get nervous and their hands would start shaking because they couldn't quote a single verse from their scripture. I talked to them about John 10:30 when Jesus said "I and my father are one". When I gave them the context they would get nervous and say they need to consult the Bible, I said no need, and I quoted the verses they required, chapter number, verse number. What verses do you require I said, quoted 5 verses before and 5 verses after. I talk to them with the words of Jesus and when the body language fits into it the context is easier to understand. Their face turns white. It's a believer's worst nightmare. They usually excuse themselves and never address me again. Thank you for your reassuring experienced advice. I definitely needed that. It's one of my biggest worries, for my son to come home one day from school proclaiming his redemption in religion or some shit. I know I'm a tad bit late on responding. Holidays will screw ya up. Lol. |
