Well, mods and staff should be allowed to be human and make mistakes, too. We hold them to a higher standard for obvious reasons, but they make mistakes just like everybody else.

Agreed. And I was the first to say that no real harm was done, because we all know Rayaan. That said, its been made apparently clear that Rayaan has no remorse and/or qualms with harassing new people. I certainly don't believe theists should be subjected to this treatment for merely signing up and having non conformist beliefs. He obviously has no remorse on the matter despite general consensus-- and that: I think, is where he stepped past the line.

I think a formal warning was called for, but since that didn't happen, we're in this mess.

What is more important is how things are handled once the mistake has been recognized, and in this case, the followup has been anemic at best. And in the case of comments by some staff afterward, arguably the situation has been made worse, not better.

For the record, such statements do not necessarily reflect those of the rest of the staff. I for one do not agree with them, but have chosen to not make a public statement at this time.

Yeah I gotta agree this whole things is reminiscent of the whole NSA thing in general, I couldn't stop thinking that the entire time. Especially what Jacob quoted from PMs:

I don't actually think that there is any need to investigate you anymore; I've satisfied my own curiosity also. However, that doesn't mean that wer're never going to perform any investigations of you at all. Whatever investigation we do, know that it's going to be for the purpose of the running of this forum, not to disparage you because of the things you said in a different forum.

And of course the most NSA one of them all:

Just replace 'forum' with 'country' on that last one.



That being said I understand that so far we have mainly only heard one side to the story, and I am open to hearing the other side. Also as others have mentioned, people make mistakes. Obviously what Rayaan did was wrong, but I don't think he should burn at the stake. He made a mistake though, it happens from time to time. What else can you do but learn from them and move on?

What I'm talking about is Jacob's last post blowing this whole drama out of proportion, when the staff is truly and most seriously trying to sort things out. Sorry that my opinion as a member came as rash.

For the record I think both Rayaan's actions and Poet's words stink. I can't put you on ignore but you two are dead to me. Fuck you both. There are people who just can't handle power and Rayaan is obviously one.

Jacob you know you have my respect. I still care about this community of people so I won't be leaving unless the asshats on staff take it upon themselves to drive me out as they have you. I hope you will consider returning if Rayaan is demoted and/or issues a satisfactory apology. This place will be much the poorer without you.

I do not know what the fuck you read poet but it can't be what I read. Rayaan's being behavior is not only fucking creepy but a total violation of the rules and abuse of his priveledges as a staff member. I personally feel that he should held to a even higher standard of conduct being a staffer. But so far this has been totally bungled and you people should be very ashamed of him. However condemnation seems to be long in coming. I'm not sure that I feel comfortable here anymore either, and I doubt I will as long ad rayaan is on staff.

And we are looking into it and respectefully asked for the envolved parts to refrain from comment untill we discussed it.

My comment there is my personal opinion and not of the staff, when I act as staff, I usually put Mod Hat On: or in PM's make notice it is on the behalf of the staff.

Ah.... but you know?.. it's the green thing... mod hat is always on...ish.
On touchy subjects like this it should have been made plain that the mod hat was off.
