We know he is just because he gives us a chance for eternal happiness even when we donot desirve it. He is merciful even when ppl kill his followers and is pateint until the day of death for salvation. He punishes evil just as you would punish a bad child by separation from joy. A child sent to their room to think about their evil doings is synonymous with hell.

And I keep saying that he's loving because loving beings (such as parents) can administer just punishment to children and still love them. Every time he'd send out a prophet to warn people they would mistreat and often kill him. We're talking about a crime against God. There's different implications. Yes, God is someone to be feared.
