Because Christianity is the posterchild for love and understanding.

Yeah, I think that quote could just as easily be said to christians. You can focus on the happy things that Jesus said if you want, but he either serves or is the same guy that told his recently freed chosen people that they can have land that's already occupied by other people. Setting aside land for them apparently didn't include keeping other tribes from using it beforehand.

Jesus definitely had some different methods on how to treat people, especially nonbelievers. Though he either needs to apologize for what he did in the old testament, or needs to get as far away from daddy as possible. There was much more mass murdering of enemies in the old testament than loving them.

He enjoys the smell of human blood too.

What makes you believe God controlled history to the point of not allowing people to inhabit land they came to. Could it be that God saw it was good that these people prepared the land for His chosen people, after all these people never did anything to help the Israelites.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I would assume a god of peace would give them land that wasn't currently owned, so his followers didn't have to slaughter and die for land that their deity supposedly prepared for them in advance.

Pretty tough to follow any rule or much of anything else when you don't exist. I assume you mean the character of the bible "God" does not follow the rules he lays down for everyone else. True enough.

That's why I prefer people who believe in God through their own experience of 'Him' to people of 'the book'. Those who emphasize the bible and take it all literally are simply fools.
