The biggest distinction I see that sets Windows apart is game support. If you want to play games, go for Windows. And also M$ office... for some reason the open document format isn't catching on as it should, and libre office looks to much like M$ office 97.
Apart from those two things, Windows has no real benefit.
In fact, being closed source, you can be sure there's something in there that's doing something you'd rather it didn't.
Unlike Linux, which is open source, meaning that any backdoors or illegitimate data collection "features" are screened by the community.
On the other hand... in a few months time, Valve is putting out their steamOS, a Linux based OS for gaming!
