Christians - Should it be legal to own slaves since God approves?

RE: Christians - Should it be legal to own slaves since God approves?
I'm glad there are good religious people that are trying to end slavery. We go over this because these are the laws and morals sent by someone who is supposed to be the definition of good, just, merciful, and loving. Yet we see him commanding people to do abhorrent things. Why do you think christian groups today are trying to end slavery? It isn't as if the bible tells them to.

Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

- So with the exception of taking the chosen ones as slaves it is permitted in the eyes of your God. No?

This post has gotten side tracked so I'll try to put it back were the OP intended.
You all are so concerned over a Bible verse that pertained to a people being punished by God by allowing them to go into slavery.
Why are you not concerned about the slavery in today's world, why are you not doing anything to help and prevent the slave trade going on under your nose. There are more slaves today than at any other time in history, why do you ignore these people, is it because it's out of your sight so out of mind. Christian groups are raising money to bring awareness to this terrible crime, and you would have this money taxed so less would be available to do this good work, they are working throughout the world to help end this atrocity. Christian networks are growing every year to abolish the modern day slave trade, it's in your backyard so what have you done.

Well it is nice to know that you are against slavery. So how did you come to this conclusion? It certainly wasn't from the Bible.

Do you like how GC all but blames atheists for the existence of the slave trade, while all those valiant Christians fight to end it?

I guess we're just supposed to assume that all the human trafficking going on in all those Christian nations (including a lot of it right here in the U.S.) is all being done by us atheists, especially the secular humanist liberals amongst us.

There's no moral clarity for "slave trade." And I do not think in such manner "because I am an atheist." All "atheism" is, is a "getting away," "going towards" is a faith-based declaration. Tongue

I love that you start out by saying how sidetracked things have gotten, and then go for unrepentant deflection. Rolleyes

GC: two wrongs don't make a right. I shouldn't have to remind you of this, it's kindergarten stuff, but there you go. The slave trade existing today is terrible, but the fact that it does exist in no way excuses the fact that it was biblically sanctioned in the past, and that your good book is not so good because of it.

What you've said isn't even an argument! It doesn't address the issue at all. Would you excuse the fall using the same logic? "Oh, Adam sinned against god, but there's fruit theft going on today, and where's god in all that? What right has he to punish us, when millions of apples go missing every day!"

Don't make me fucking laugh. Rolleyes

That's not right at all. In fact, if you don't individually free-think exactly what God wants you to, you're going to spend eternity on a spit roast.
If that is true, let God tell this man, not you. Until then, you have no evidence, so shut the hell up.
