How do we know Christ was speaking of The church and not mameing ourselves? We do not have any example of people physically putting out eyes or cutting off hands, but we do have examples of people being put out/not being allowed in of the Church. (Even by Christ.)

In fairness, I think this is one of those allegories which is fairly obviously an allegory. There are lots of area which we claim as allegories which may not have been meant as such but the analogy of the Church as a body is mentioned as such in several places.
