RE: How can a Christian reject part of the Bible and still call themselves a Christian?

Jesus gave two commandments in the New Testament. Love God above all, and love others above yourself. He never talked about homosexuality, and ir is only mentioned a very few times at all in the New Testament. However, He did spend a whole lot of time talking about being charitable to others, such as the poor, elderly, sick, children and the disenfranchised. The only people He railed against were the corrupt politicians and religious leaders. Churches miss so many opportunities to bring glbtq people through their doors. I’m certainly not going to go somewhere where people are constantly bashing me, telling me I’m sick, evil, a pedophile and going to burn in hell. That’s certainly not following Jesus’ commandments.

She believes that it is perfectly acceptable to be a homosexual because you should be able to love anyone you want.
I asked her how she could say that and call herself a Christian. She became iritated. I pointed out that her Bible clearly states that it is an abomination. She finally said " I don't care what it says" and ended the conversation. The stress caused by the cognitive dissonance was pretty high.
I find Christians do this a lot. They reject what they don't like in the Bible.
Well, that would depend on what it takes to constitute as a christian.
Some would say believing Jesus is God will suffice, or that if you subscribe to the beliefs outlined in the Nicene Creed.
Christians can believe all sorts of things, such as the bible not being an inerrant word of God, that the views expressed in them are driven by the cultural context, flaws, and prejudices of their writers. This in and of itself is an insufficient basis to deny that someone is a Christian.
Different Christians have different interpretations of a variety of aspects about the bible, just as people have different interpretations of great novels. While many christians might hold their interpretation as the accurate, few would say holding to their interpretation is a requirement of being a christian. It's not a central doctrine of the Nicene Creed, which help to establish orthodox vs non-orthodox beliefs.

Well it's like the OT vs. the NT.
A great many christians will rationalise the OT kettle of crazy as being obviated by the new covenant established by jebus.
Next question: So are the 10 commandments out?
Answer: No, jebus endorsed those.
Next question: What makes you think that? The magic book says he didn't in the NT. In fact, jebus endorsed 5 of them and added two that he plagiarised from Hammurabi. Whys is that?
And how come I know which 5 and why? And how come you do not? Don't you find it odd that I know what is written in your magic book, but you don't? Have you not read the thing?

A necropost from 2014 should be a ban-worthy offense.

That's OK, the last real Christians perished with the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD. You lot are Saulites.
The Bible was created by Christians who chose which parts would become canon and which would end up on the cutting room floor.
