would you tell your parents one day that you are an atheist ?
|
Already told her and she thinks I'm "acting out". Haven't told daddy yet.
I think my dad is a Catholic man who denies to himself that he knows there is something intrinsically wrong with his faith. He wouldn't judge me, but he would feel it necessary to at least cajole me should I ever tell him. More out of Irish family duty, I suspect.
My mam is a little more spiritual in her approaches to everything - even going as far as to believe on guardian angels. I would never tell her. Not because of the storm it would cause, but because - in the best possible respect for my wonderful mum - she wouldn't be able to rationally discuss my choices.
My mom is an atheist and my dad is agnostic, so I don't think they mind.
My mom doesn't really care much. My dad seems to think it's just a phase I'm going through and he kind of takes it personally (as he does with my shift in political views). He's sent me the same christmas card with the same verse on it four years running.
And the crazy thing is, he's never been overtly religious, a weaksauce churchgoer when I was young and I'm sure he hasn't stepped foot in one in twenty years.
I told mine when I was 14 (now 59), my mother says I'm a heathen my father has lost his marbles and doesn't know what day it is (must be a gift from god!)
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.
Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!
I leave my mom alone with her belief and she leaves me alone with my disbelief.
I already did when I was 14. My mother still prays for me before I leave the house and she literally forces me to have a little picture of angels in my room. My father doesn't really seem to care much.
Yeah I got that shit done at 12. They don't care. My mom even finds it hilarious when I joke about there being no God. She believes in some sort of higher power, but couldn't give a fuck.
Mum atheist...
Dad... deist, at best. I never really told them, but... never had to. My brother took care of telling them for me... such a sweet kid, he was... |
